Eureka Moments: Discovering Non-Obvious Silicone Contamination

The factors that have a high impact on the success of adhesion processes are not always what they seem. Over the years we've discovered that contamination of surfaces that leads to adhesion failure does not always come from the most obvious places.

If you're doing everything right (i.e. measuring the surface quality of your bond materials, using reliable and appropriate surface cleaning and preparation techniques, etc.) but the measurements aren't comporting with your expectations, then it's time to take a closer look.

This kind of situation leads to what we call Eureka Moments. These little bolts of lightning to the brain occur when BTG Labs' technology is used like Sherlock Holmes' magnifying glass to gather clues pointing to the root cause of imperfect adhesion and follow them to the solution. Sometimes that solution reveals itself in seemingly unlikely places.

In one, an engineer working for a manufacturer of precision machined metal parts was scratching her head when the vapor degreaser was not producing the cleanliness results she expected. 

In the other, a mysterious contamination reared its head in a printed circuit board coating operation. 

In both, the manufacturers had some startling realizations (Eureka Moments) and came away with a deeper understanding of and appreciation for how every aspect of the adhesion process is significant.
